Contorted smoke, and rituals of convulsing magicks carve their presence through these slowly unfolding trance-inducing chapters of occult black metal. Releasing this Friday through Caligari Records who put out their previous releases, the third album from UK band The Holy Flesh, Advocate, Martyr and Redeemer, continues to channel the great and underground of black metal’s canon through a form of wrought atmospherics that conveys an air of richly layered minimalism. Its track titles, divided into three parts of numeric references to the title, progress the narrative of the album, through taught assertive guitar tones that command the listener’s attention as they pulse and weave through the percussion, despite the smoky luminous details lurking throughout the peripheries that bring you back round for repeat listens.
