I have a double-whammy of exclusive premieres for you today, both intense, imposing records of different styles.
Releasing through Caligari Records on 13th December, Kildonan is the latest project from Hamish MacKintosh, drummer for bands including Belliceste, Sluagh, and Úir – all of whom I have featured on the channel over the years.
MacKintosh is also behind solo-project Vostok, and through this new incarnation as Kildonan, he re-ignites the spirit of Vostok, draws on the earthy atmospheric enormity and grim desolation of other projects, and combines them into a new journey into the landscapes of ancient Britain.
A 41-minute monolith of deliriously swirling mesmerizing and melodic black metal, with dark shades of euphoric dissonance of BaN and DSO, and the rurally hewn spellcasting of British bands such as Winterfylleth, Fen, and Wodensthrone, this album is at one a cataclysmic confrontation and melancholic paean to ancient ways - Ioliar…...more
